Some haiku

walking to the pond:
the chatter of gadwalls
guiding my steps

* * *

lonesome cloud---
moving towards the mountain
as I move away

* * *

afternoon storm clouds
approaching overhead---
the earth stops moving

* * *

up too early
after dreaming all night
the loss of you

* * *

outside my window
desert wind tries to get in
again . . . again

* * *

my wife's daffodils
starting to bloom today:
stops me where I stand

* * *

afternoon storm:
counting seconds between
lightning and thunder

* * *

a pointed moon
above the mesa---
small consolation

* * *

morning ritual---
tea and reading as I wait
for my poems

* * *

awake at midnight
the house calm again
after a dog's bark

* * *

nothing in my mind
worth sharing this morning---
my apologies

* * *

this morning's big news---
talking about the eclipse
I slept through

* * *

alone at my desk:
a cold wind pushing its way
towards Ely

* * *

awake before dawn
boiling water for tea:
anticipation

* * *

dark clouds over head---
too many poets today
cannot see them pass

* * *

sitting in the dark
asking which will come first---
sunrise or birdsong.

* * *

this cat's insistence:
making a few lines of verse
quite impossible
